Man Up:
Turn your guys closet into your fashion maven!
By: Rachel Reiswerg
eason after season we keep seeing the borrowed-from-your-boyfriend look on the runways and on the streets. Menswear has great structured jackets, crisp shirts and timeless pieces, great for every season.  It was just a matter of time before women started shopping in the men’s department. Men’s clothes can be very flattering, and even sexy on women, you just have to know how to style it. When wearing something from the men’s department keep in my mind you don’t want to end up looking manly, but chic and sexy -the secret is in the details-  always mix it up. Use menswear with other feminine pieces, like skirts, heels and jewelry. So man-up and mix-up your closet with these great menswear inspired (and actual menswear) pieces.

Men’s watches look great on women’s arms, you can find this Guess watch ($110) at Macy’s. It has a chic leather band with gold detailing and goes perfectly with any outfit. Great way to get in to the trend without any dramatic changes to your style.
The bow tie can be pretty bold for some women, but styling it right can make for a great look. Make sure the tie stands out in your outfit, wear it with a classic button down in a nude color. Heels are great to complete the ensemble so you don’t end up looking like a school girl.
Though inspired from the male closet, oxfords and loafers are now at every women’s shoe department, you can find great girly versions like these from Top Shop ($50), with a cute bow on top, they go great with feminine high waisted skirts and dresses.
Going great with shorts, pants and even skirts the suspenders look fashionable and can really make a simple outfit look bold. These are from Forever 21 ($7.90) and the brown color make them great to pair with skirts, shorts an pants.
A classic men’s flannel shirt is timeless, great for summer and winter, and something you can literally just take from you boyfriends closet. From Urban Outfitters ($38) this one comes in a pale rose color, making it more feminine.
Try wearing actual men’s blazers, they go great with skinny jeans and high waisted skirts, the proportions between the oversize men’s blazer and the feminine skirt looks great. This Top Man navy blazer ($25) can go with any color, but when paired with a mustard colored skirt and loafers it can really turn heads.
The men’s cardigan, it’s big and cozy, great for winter, this one is from Forever 21 ($26.90) and it comes straight from the men’s department and you can wear it to lounge at home or to take a walk around town, but always looking great.
Menswear has been a big trend this year and promises to keep strong next year too, so shop around the men’s section next time you’re at the mall, and don’t be afraid to raid your boyfriend’s closet, figuratively and literally.
