Haley Madison Magazine wanted to highlight a woman who avidly works out and is still as feminine as can be. More women must realize that the key to looking younger and feeling great is to stay physically fit through exercise, and that inner health will shine to outside beauty. I recently had the chance to chat with Diane Williams, who is a plus sized model and owner of Curvy Goddess Workout. Diane was the perfect person for HMM to interview; in line with our mission statement, she is an insightful, empowered and motivated woman. Read below to find out more on how she stays fit and her thoughts on fitness.
Why she started working out?

DW:While modeling a friend suggested that I hire a personal trainer. I hired a female trainer and she opened my eyes toward fitness. Before that, I was not athletic at all, but when that happened I finally understood why people were into fitness. It’s about really using your body as a temple….the body is an amazing thing and it is a part of you. You use your body to move and we need to integrate our mind and spirit with the physical.

What her workout routine is?

DW:I work out 4 times a week with my own trainer. I box with my trainer twice a week for a full hour. We do circuit training; heavy bag and mid combination and then we do some resistance training. I also do cardiovascular on my own- spinning and the elliptical [machine]. I really like the very high intensity workouts like the boxing and spinning.

Motivation to work out every day?

DW: It’s the feeling of it. I get into the feeling because I am very kinesthetic…when I punch, the pain, the full process of it. I get into how I feel with my body as opposed to how I look. I’m also goal oriented…I like going through the process of getting better and better. That’s my thing, always feeling that sense of accomplishment, going through the pain and actually conquering it. And having a support system- there is nothing like having a wonderful trainer…having someone who supports you and who is a professional and who can see what your strong points are and your weaknesses and help you to get where you want to be. Everyone, if they are able to, should take advantage of a trainer because it’s the best thing.

A personal philosophy on fitness?

DW:I think that the fitness industry takes advantage of the insecurities about our bodies, and they scare us even more. We have these wonderful temples, and fitness is about being aware of these temples that we have…but coming from a positive outlook and platform as opposed to “you’re getting into fitness because you need to.” It’s a scare tactic to motivate you so I don’t feel like that’s inspiring. You place clothes on your body and wear makeup- it’s disguising your body, you should be highlighting the body you have, and fitness is a beauty asset. It [fitness] is just as important as cooking, fashion or makeup. With Curvy Goddess, I want to come from a place of not scaring women, but helping them recognize that what they have is amazing and wonderful and to take advantage of the body you have.
